ElitePad Won’t Turn On
The ElitePad is powered off and is unresponsive when pressing the ‘power on’ button.
Battery is Not Charged
This is the most likely cause to the problem, either due to a faulty outlet or bad charger. Plug your ElitePad in using a power outlet that is verified to have power. To test the outlet, charge a different device that you know is functioning correctly and has a working charger. If the working device doesn’t charge, use a different outlet to charge your ElitePad. If the other device charges, then you possibly have a bad charger. Visually inspect your charger to make sure there isn’t any damage. If the charger is visibly damaged, replace it before further troubleshooting. If you can’t see any damage, test it out by charging your ElitePad using a different charger. If this works, the previous charger is bad and needs to be replaced.
Battery is Faulty
Batteries slowly degrade over time, and they can sometimes fail at random. If the device is still unresponsive after using a properly functioning power outlet and charger, you probably have a dead battery.
Replace the battery by using this guide.
Power Button is Faulty
Physical buttons can fail over time or get jammed; that is, it gets stuck in a given position and doesn’t respond when pushed.
The power button assembly can be replaced by using this guide.
Motherboard is Faulty
The previous steps addressed the power source as the most likely cause; if they failed to fix the issue, then it could be a faulty motherboard.
HP refers to this component as a System Board, and it can be replaced by following this guide.
Audio is poor and/or doesn’t work with headphones
External speakers are connected (through audio jack or Bluetooth) and no sound can be heard.
Audio Settings Configured Incorrectly
First, verify that the volume is up and not muted. Check that the device is properly connected to the desired audio source (Bluetooth or audio jack) if you aren’t listening through the internal speakers. To test for sound, you can run a simple check by selecting “Sounds” within the control panel and tapping on a default sound which should play over the internal speakers. If no sound is played, then you may have a software problem and need to contact HP. Alternatively, you may have faulty internal speakers that need to be replaced. If sound is heard, then the issue is external, and you possibly have faulty headphones or a dirty or faulty audio jack.
Faulty Headphones
Headphones are a common wear and tear item; they should be visually inspected for damage. Test them out on another device to make sure they are working.
Audio Jack is Dirty
Dirt can accumulate within the audio jack over time and cause a poor connection. If you have some air duster(gas duster or compressed air can), spray some into the audio jack to clear any debris that may be inside. Another option is carefully inserting a cotton swab into the jack to clean it out.
Audio Jack Faulty
If the headphones are working and external audio is still not working after cleaning, then the Audio Jack assembly is faulty and in need of replacement by following this guide.

Charger is Faulty
Do a visual inspection of your charger. Check for things like a damaged insulator, exposed or severed wires, and bent electrical prongs. If no visible signs of damage can be seen, the battery may still be faulty. Test this by charging your ElitePad with another (properly functioning) charger, if it charges then the other charger is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Power Outlet isn’t Actually Powered
This may seem obvious but should be checked to rule it out as an issue. If you are using a power strip, verify it is plugged in, and that the surge protector switch is in the ‘on’ position. You can test to see if the outlet is working correctly by charging a different (properly functioning) device.
Battery is Faulty
The signs of a faulty battery are poor battery life, excessive heat when charging, device unable to take a charge, and unable to turn on the device. The battery can be replaced by following this guide.
Screen not responsive
Touch screen function on the tablet is lost entirely or intermittently.
Screen Has Moisture On It
Small amounts of moisture can mess with the functionality of the touch screen. Wipe the screen off with a clean/dry cloth. If the ElitePad has a protective case over the screen, check to see that no moisture has gotten underneath the case.
Unexpected Error in Operating System
Sometimes a small software glitch can cause the screen to freeze up. Restarting the device can often clear up issues by itself, now would be a good time to give it a try.
Display Assembly is Faulty
The display assembly can malfunction or break, especially if the ElitePad has been dropped or mishandled. Luckily, it is a straightforward process to replace the display assembly by following this guide.
Motherboard is Faulty
If the previous steps failed to fix the issue, then it most likely is a faulty motherboard(HP calls it a system board) that needs replacement. The ElitePad’s modular design makes the task of replacing the motherboard achievable by anyone. Here is a step by step guide.
Broken Power/Volume buttons
The ElitePad is powered on and is unresponsive when the buttons are pressed.
Software Has Stopped Recognizing the Buttons
Sometimes, devices fail to recognize their buttons, and this can be resolved by doing a simple restart. If the power button is unresponsive, you can go through settings to manually shutdown the device and then attempt to restart the device.
Buttons Have Failed
If the power or volume buttons get jammed or fail, then a replacement is necessary. The replacement buttons come as an assembly, which makes the task easy. Here is a step by step guide.
